Bayern Munich vs TSG Hoffenheim 05/10/19
5 October 2019
Bayern Munich will be looking to carry momentum from a 7-2 thumping of Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League to their Bundesliga (BL) showdown against TSG Hoffenheim when the two meet at the Allianz Arena this weekend.
Big favorites to win here, the reigning German champions have never lost a top-flight H2H with Hoffenheim in Munich (W9, D2). It’s been almost a year since Bayern last lost a BL home game, with Niko Kovac’s men winning 13 of the 14 previous such matches (D1). Along with Wolfsburg, the Bavarians are the only unbeaten team in Germany’s top-tier competition, and with a record of four wins and two draws, they currently sit top of the BL table. What’s more, Robert Lewandowski and Co. have already taken their tally to 19 goals, netting 2+ match goals in all but one league fixture this term. Twelve of those goals have come at home, with the hosts finding the net in all six halves of BL home action played to date.
Still chasing their elusive first away win this season (D2, L1), the visitors arrive at the Allianz Arena on a four-game winless BL run (D2, L2). Zero wins in the last five BL trips (D2, L3) is enough for concern, but three successive league defeats to Bayern should devastate the struggling traveling side. Unlike last season, goals have been at a premium in three Hoffenheim’s BL trips this term. Each of their three BL away matches have featured under 2.5 goals with ‘Die Kraichgauer’ failing to hit the back of the net twice in the process. Additionally, Alfred Schreuder’s players have so far bagged just four league goals – the BL joint-low, scoring over 1.5 match goals only once in the opening six rounds of fixtures.
