Bayern Munich vs Olympiacos 07/11/19

7 November 2019

Bayern Munich secured a tight 3-2 win in the reversed fixture at Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League (CL) Group B and are now looking for a repeat at the Allianz Arena that would propel them to the knockout stage.

After a 5-1 demolition to Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend, the Bavarians have relieved Niko Kovac of his duty. Still, the Bundesliga giants have hit the ground running in Europe, winning all three of their opening matches in Group B to establish a five-point cushion to second-placed Tottenham. In fact, the hosts have netted at least one goal in all six halves of the CL football played so far, scoring a minimum of three goals per CL fixture. But, Bayern’s leaky defense has conceded precisely one goal in each of the last four halves of the CL action played. Nonetheless, they are odds-on favorites ahead of the kick-off and have a stunning recent CL home record in the group stage to rely on here (W15, D1).

Meanwhile, nailed to the bottom of Group B with a single point from the opening three matches, the visitors face a formidable challenge here, having lost all five of their previous H2H meetings with Bayern via a disastrous goal difference of -13 (GF:4, GA:17). Olympiacos’ defensive frailties saw them concede eight goals in the group stage already, on an average of 2.66 goals allowed per CL fixture. Also, the Greek side have lost seven of their last nine matches in the CL group stage (D2), conceding at least two goals in eight of those games. It gets worse for the ‘Thrylos’ as they’ve lost six successive clashes against the German opponents, three of which have come away from home and witnessed them draw a blank.
