Bayern Munich vs Liverpool 14/03/19

14 March 2019

After being held to a goalless draw to Bayern Munich at Anfield, Liverpool travel to the Allianz Stadium for the return leg of their Champions Leauge last-16 clash with everything to play for.

The hots come into this meeting off the back of a stunning 6-0 home win over Wolfsburg that has seen them leapfrog Borrusia Dortmund on the top of the Bundesliga table. The Bavarians have not only racked up a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions (W6, D1), but they have also won all four of their home outings in 2019, scoring 14 goals while conceding just two in the process. Notably improved in the final third, the reigning German holders have bagged 3+ match goals in four of their previous six competitive games. However, a potential problem for Niko Kovac could be the fact his players have failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their last ten meetings, allowing over 1.5 goals per match three times along the way.

Meanwhile, the visitors secured a comfortable 4-2 home win over Burnley at the weekend, which was their second victory in their previous five competitive clashes (W2, D3). All three of Liverpool’s previous draws have ended with the identical 0-0 scoreline, with two of them arriving away from home. The Reds come into this encounter carrying a three-game road winless run on their backs (D3), with Jurgen Klopp’s players scoring one goal or less in all six of their previous road trips across all competitions. An inexplicable drop off in form has seen Liverpool failed to score 2+ match goals away from in 2019. But, the German tactician is far more worried about the fact his men have lost all three of their Champions League road fixtures this term, scoring barely one goal along the way.
