Bayern Munich vs Hertha Berlin 18/08/19

18 August 2019

Bayern Munich and Hertha Berling go head-to-head at the Allianz Arena for the opening match of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season.

The hosts have started the 2019-20 season with a whimper rather than a bang having suffered a 2-0 loss to arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup. However, the reigning Bundesliga holders enter the first league game off the back of a comfortable 3-1 away win over the German lower-league outfit Energie Cottbus in the first round of DFB Pokal. The Bavarians have not only dodged failure in all 17 of their previous H2H home clashes with Hertha in the 21st century, but they’ve also pulled off 15 wins across the same span (W15, D2). Additionally, Bayern’s last league defeat at the Allianz Arena dates back to early October (3-0 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach), after which they’ve sealed 11 wins in 13 subsequent outings (W11, D2).

On the other hand, the visitors have enjoyed a successful start to the new campaign having secured a routine 5-1 away win over a domestic lower-league side Eichstatt in DFB Pokal. Extensive preparations for the 2019-20 season have seen Die Alte Dame feature in ten pre-season games (W6, D2, L2), with six of those matches producing over 2.5 goals. But, Hertha’s main problem last season was their performance when away from home, as just 19 of their total 43 BL points the last term has arrived on the road (44.18%). What’s more, Ante Covic’s men have struggled to find the net in all five of their last visits to this venue, with four of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals.
