Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt 18/05/19
18 May 2019
The Bundesliga title contenders and the Champions League promotion fighters go head-to-head at the Allianz Arena for the final Bundesliga round of fixtures as Bayern Munich tackle Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sitting two points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, the hosts need to dodge a failure here to wrap up their seventh successive Bundesliga title. Although unbeaten in the league since the beginning of February (W10, D3), two of Bayern’s draws in that span have come in the last three BL outings, including the one with RB Leipzig last time out. Still, the Bavarians have gone from strength to strength at home in 2019, winning all eight of their BL home fixtures since the turn of the year. Notably, five of those wins have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with the reigning holders restricting their rivals to precisely one goal per match in the remaining three. Furthermore, Niko Kovac’s men have netted over 2.5 match goals in five of those triumphs while bagging 5+ match goals in three of their last five BL home clashes.
Meanwhile, the visitors’ drop-off in form that has seen them failed to pick up a victory in all five of their previous BL outings (D2, L3) currently puts them one point below fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach. Adi Hütter’s men have scored one goal or less in all five of those encounters while allowing over 1.5 match goals in all three losses in that span. Although they desperately need all three points here, Die Adler’s recent away form suggests that it will be a daunting prospect for them to post their first BL away win over Bayern since 2000. They have not only failed to win in all four of their last road games across all competitions (D2, L2), but their defensive frailties have also seen them concede over 3.5 match goals twice across those meetings.
