Barcelona vs Real Sociedad 21/05/18

21 May 2018

A thrilling 5-4 loss to Levante last weekend has ended Barcelona’s hopes of setting new La Liga record as the only team to win the title without a single defeat in the entire season, as the Spanish champions are set to host Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou on the final day of the season. The Blaugrana are by far the best home side in the league, as they’ve achieved fifteen victories out of eighteen matches at home this year, drawing three times in the process. Sociedad, on the other hand, lost ten games on the road, three out of their previous five, clearly indicating they have a hard time playing away from Anoeta. Despite the Champions League elimination to Roma, Barcelona have had a quite successful season winning two domestic titles, demolishing Sevilla in Copa del Rey final by five goals to nil, while the Whites and Blues lost any chance of securing European football whatsoever. Imanol Alguacil is looking forward to his first encounter with the Catalan giants since his appointment back in March, hoping to end Sociedad’s disastrous 18-game losing streak at Camp Nou in all competitions.

Valverde won’t have Samuel Umtiti and Aleix Vidal at his disposal, as both are struggling with injuries, while Leo Messi could return to the starting eleven after skipping last weekend’s match with Levante. Imanol Agirretxe, Aritz Elustondo, Igor Zubeldia, and Jon Guridi won’t travel to Catalonia with the rest of the squad due to physical problems.
