Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid 07/04/19

7 April 2019

Saturday’s La Liga action concludes with a massive showdown between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou as the two sides go head-to-head for a fixture that can decide the outcome of the title run-in.

Sitting top of the table with an eight-point lead over their next rivals, the hosts look to post their fourth straight LL home triumph and grab their second successive league title. Although the Catalans boast the second-best LL home record (W11, D3, L1), their only league defeat here dates back to early November, after which the Catalans secured seven wins in eight outings (W7, D1), scoring 2+ match goals seven times while keeping a clean sheet on five occasions during the run. Surprisingly, Barcelona’s recent competitive home games have been short of entertainment, with four of their last six home clashes producing under 2.5 goals. Interestingly, Barca’s last home loss to Atletico dates back to 2006, with the Blaugrana picking up 12 wins in 18 of their previous H2Hs at this venue.

Meanwhile, for the visitors, victory is imperative if they look to challenge the reigning holders for the ultimate prize. However, Diego Simeone’s players have failed to convince on the road in the recent period, suffering three defeats in their last six away games across all competitions (W3, L3). Interestingly, all three of Atletico’s failures in that period have seen them struggled to find the back of the net, which could be their main problem here. Los Colchoneros have failed to score 2+ goals against Barcelona at Camp Nou in all 13 of their previous visits. If the Madrid giants win here, it would probably be to nil given the fact five of their six LL road wins saw them beating their rivals without conceding a goal.
