Barcelona vs Arsenal 05/08/19

5 August 2019

Barcelona and Arsenal will face-off at the Camp Nou battling it out for the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Arsenal will be Barcelona’s second high-profile opponent this summer, with the Blaugrana suffering a 2-1 loss to Chelsea in their opening pre-season match. However, the Catalans have bounced back instantly, securing a comfortable 2-0 win over the Japanese side Vissel Kobe in the build-up to this clash. Ernesto Valverde will be desperate to see his team picking up a victory here after overseeing his team’s run of poor form in the final stage of the 2018-19 campaign. La Liga giants have clinched just one win in the last five outings last term (W1, D1, L3), with their unimpressive form culminating in a 2-1 defeat to Valencia in the Copa del Rey final. Still, if Barcelona win here, it may see Arsenal fail to find the net, as eight of Barca’s last nine triumphs saw them beat their rivals to nil.

Meanwhile, the Gunners have endured mixed fortunes this summer (W3, D3, L1), although they’ve provided their fans with entertaining matches throughout their pre-season. Six of Arsenal’s seven pre-season games have featured over 2.5 goals, with six seeing both teams score too. Additionally, six of those clashes have featured goals in both halves, with Unai Emery’s players finding the net before the halftime whistle five times in the process. The North Londoners will now try to bring a three-game losing streak against Barcelona to a halt, with two of those meetings ending with the same 3-1 scoreline in Barca’s favor.
