Austria vs Sweden 07/09/18
07 September 2018
Austria and Sweden will face off against each other in a friendly match at the Generali Arena in Vienna as part of their preparation campaign ahead of the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Das Team have missed out on the 2018 FIFA World Cup following a stressful qualifying campaign where they finished fourth in the qualifying Group D behind Serbia, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland. However, Franco Foda’s players notably raised their game this year, achieving six consecutive triumphs in the warm-up period, including the one against Germany, while their only defeat came against Brazil in early June when they got hammered by three goals to nil.
On the other hand, the Blue-Yellow warriors have emerged as one of the most exciting surprises in Russia, where they managed to send Germany back home during the group stage before eliminating Switzerland in the round of 16. Unfortunately, the inspired England team left the Scandinavians with no chance in the quarter-finals, securing a comfortable 2-0 win that shipped them to the semis.
Michael Gregoritsch and Marko Arnautović are expected to spearhead Austria’s attack, while Robin Quaison should be the player to fill the gap left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and partner Marcus Berg in the final third.
