Austria vs Greece 08/10/20

08 October 2020

Wörthersee Stadion is the venue as Austria and Greece meet face-to-face in an international friendly match-up, with the home team searching for their elusive first win in their H2H meetings (D1, L4).

‘Das Team’ endured mixed fortunes during the last international break (W1, L1), though both of those fixtures saw over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Free-scoring Austria have, however, netted over 1.5 goals in all of their previous four home outings, finding the back of the net in both halves on each occasion. But, a potential worry for Franco Foda’s men is that they’ve failed to beat Greece in all of their three H2Hs held on home soil (D1, L2), conceding precisely two goals per game in each. Keeping a clean sheet could be quite daunting for Austria here, considering they’ve failed to shut out their rivals in five of their last six matches.

Meanwhile, the visitors have enjoyed a notable upturn in results preparing for this encounter, going from six straight games without a win (D1, L5) to five consecutive fixtures without a loss (W4, D1). Curiously, a clear majority (77.78%) of the results (wins/losses) during that 11-game sequence have yielded a narrow one-goal margin (7/9), with 44.44% (four) producing the identical 2-1 scoreline. Additionally, away from home, the ‘Ethniki’ have overseen an upturn in form, going from three successive defeat to three games without a loss (W2, D1). Notably, four of those six clashes have seen at least one side fail to get on the scoresheet.
