Austria vs Denmark

Ernst Happel Stadion is the venue as Austria and Denmark go head-to-head in an exciting 2022/23 UEFA Nations League showdown.

Ralf Rangnick marked his return to the realm of international management with an overwhelming 3-0 win over 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia in their Group A1 curtain-raiser. After consolidating their place in their first tournament game since earning promotion to League A, Austria will be looking to win back-to-back matches for the first time in 2022 (W1, D1, L1). Interestingly, before beating Croatia last time out, the Austrians had failed to defeat a side from FIFA’s top 20 for four years, highlighting their struggle against the world’s best teams. Yet, ‘Das Team’ have been tough to beat at home, suffering just three defeats in their last 16 internationals (W10, D3).

On the other hand, Denmark pulled off a sensational second-half comeback to beat reigning Nations League champions France 2-1 on the road last time out. Since being knocked out by England in the Euro 2020 semi-finals, the Danes have racked up eight victories in ten international outings (L2), including the last two in a row. That sequence includes a narrow 1-0 triumph over Austria in a World Cup qualifier. Kasper Hjumland’s men have now won three consecutive meetings with their Austrian counterparts by an aggregate score of 7-0, with six of the seven goals scored coming beyond half-time.
