Augsburg vs Wolfsburg 16/05/20

16 May 2020

Augsburg and Wolfsburg will face-off at WWK Arena this weekend, as the home side look to bring a four-game winless run in the Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs to an end (D2, L2).

The hosts were on a five-game winless BL run (D1, L4) before the coronavirus pandemic halted the season, failing to find the back of the net in three of those defeats. Yet, much more comfortable on home turf, Augsburg have racked up 66.67% (18) of their total 27 league points, even though they’ve managed just one win in their last four such fixtures (D1, L2). WWK Arena has been a venue of entertainment this season, with ten of Augsburg’s 12 BL games here producing over 2.5 goals. In turn, both of their previous top-flight home H2Hs have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams score.

Meanwhile, the visitors enjoyed a six-game unbeaten league run (W3, D3) before the pandemic stopped football and are still very much in contention for European qualification. Indeed, the Wolves sit just one point adrift of sixth-placed Schlake 04. But, Wolfsburg have endured mixed fortunes in their last five BL road trips (W2, D1, L2), conceding at least two goals in each of those matches. Lapses of concentration in the second have seen 11 of Wolfsburg’s 17 BL away goals conceded arrive after the break (64.71%).
