RB Leipzig’s hopes of securing Champions League football for the second year running will be on the line this weekend, as they head to the WWK Arena to meet Augsburg on the final matchday of the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign.

Despite picking up just two wins from eight Bundesliga games since the league’s restart (D3, L3), the hosts have managed to avoid relegation. A genuine lack of firepower up front saw Augsburg score under 1.5 goals in seven of eight post-pandemic league fixtures, with five of the eight goals they scored during that sequence arriving in the second half of play. Indeed, if they manage to find the net here, the ‘Fuggerstädter’ are likely to do it after the break, as 62.96% (17) of their 27 Bundesliga home goals scored so far came in the second 45 minutes. Still, Heiko Herrlich’s men are unlikely to prevent Leipzig from scoring here, as they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of eight league home games in 2020, conceding over 1.5 goals on four of those occasions.

Meanwhile, winless in their last two Bundesliga fixtures (D1, L1), the visitors need to avoid defeat here to seal a place in the next year’s Champions League group stage. Julian Nagelsmann’s side can draw inspiration from their six-game unbeaten league away run (W4, D2) and the fact that they kept a clean sheet five times during that sequence. Also, free-scoring Leipzig have scored at least once inside the opening 30 minutes of play and over 3.5 match goals in three of their last five Bundesliga road trips. But, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have yet to beat Augsburg away from home in the Bundesliga (D2, L1) and have drawn a blank in both of their previous top-flight trips to WWK Arena.
