Augsburg vs Borussia Dortmund 29/09/20
29 September 2020
Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head at the WWK Arena in a potentially high-scoring Bundesliga contest. All four of their previous top-flight H2Hs have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with three of them containing over 5.5 goals.
Augsburg eased past Union Berlin on Matchday 1, pulling off a comfortable 3-1 triumph on the road. However, both of their last season’s Bundesliga H2H meetings with Dortmund resulted in a loss, with the ‘Fuggerstädter’ conceding precisely five goals apiece after breaking the deadlock in each. Despite picking up just a single win from nine home league fixtures this calendar year (W1, D3, L5), Heiko Herrlich’s men have been an exciting team to watch. Indeed, eight of those nine matches have seen both teams on the scoresheet, with six producing over 2.5 goals. Notably, a clear majority (75%) of Augsburg’s Bundesliga home results (wins/losses) last season saw the winner on the day fail to keep a clean sheet (9/12).
Meanwhile, Dortmund got off to a flying start to the new league campaign, dismantling Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 on home turf. That now means that all six of their previous Bundesliga results have seen the winner on the day shut out the loser, last season included (W4, L2). Interestingly, the visitors were one of just four sides to register ten or more wins away from home back in 2019/20, with seven of their ten road successes coming via at least a two-goal margin. Additionally, a trip to Augsburg may evoke some pleasant memories, considering just one of Borussia’s last nine top-flight travels to the WWK Arena has resulted in a defeat (W6, D2, L1).
