Augsburg vs Borussia Dormtund 18/01/20

18 January 2020

Borussia Dortmund head to the WWK Arena to take on an unpredictable Augsburg side who they brushed aside with a commanding 5-1 triumph in the reverse fixture.

Augsburg’s impressive six-game unbeaten Bundesliga (BL) run (W5, D1) has suffered a blow last time out, with the ‘Fuggerstädter’ succumbing 3-1 to RB Leipzig on the road. Far more comfortable at home, Martin Schmidt’s men have secured 14 of their total 23 BL points at the WWK Arena (60.87%), with nine of those points coming in the last three league fixtures (W3). What’s more, free-scoring Augsburg have found the net in all ten halves of the BL home action played since October. But, they now face a formidable challenge of a strong Dortmund side they’ve lost to in five of their last eight top-flight home H2Hs (W1, D2). Notably, six of those clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, with six witnessing both teams score too.

Meanwhile, Dortmund will be looking for a fresh start in 2020 after failing to pick up a win in both of their previous league outings ahead of the winter break (D1, L1). Also, ‘Die Borussen’ will need to improve their away form to be able to challenge for the league title. In fact, they’ve won just two of their last eight BL away fixtures (D3, L3), although both of those successes have come in the previous three road trips. Dortmund’s recent league matches have not lacked entertainment, at least. Indeed, all of their last eight BL fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals, with half of them seeing both teams score (4).
