Augsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen 27/04/19
27 April 2019
Two unpredictable sides meet face-to-face in this weekend’s Bundesliga round of matches as Augsburg welcome Bayer Leverkusen to WWK Arena.
In spite of enduring an underwhelming Bundesliga campaign (W8, D7, L15), the hosts seem to be on the verge of extending their top-flight status, as they currently sit 10 points clear of the relegation territory, with four league fixtures left to go. Unable to maintain consistency, the Fuggerstädter have experienced mixed fortunes in their last six BL outings (W3, D1, L2). However, they come into this meeting after securing back-to-back league wins that have seen them score nine goals while conceding just one in the process. Far more comfortable at home, Martin Schmidt’s players have collected 19 of a total of 31 of their BL points here (61.29%) although four of five of their BL home victories have come against bottom-ten league sides. Also, Augsburg go in search of their elusive first competitive home win over Leverkusen in H2Hs at this venue in the 21st century (D3, L4) with all seven of their previous H2H meetings at WWK Arena featuring goals on both ends.
On the other hand, the visitors reside seventh, two points adrift of sixth-placed TSG Hoffenheim as they still hope to secure European promotion in the last four BL matchdays. Leverkusen’s sudden rise has seen them gone from three consecutive league defeats to two straight victories, with the Company XI beating their rivals to nil in both. But, Bayer’s ups and downs have seen them experience partial success away from home since February (W2, L2), with three of four of their BL road fixtures in that period featuring over 4.5 match goals. Additionally, Peter Bosz’s men have been struggling for clean sheets on the road this term – three clean slates on 15 BL road trips, allowing over 1.5 match goals eight times along the way. Notably, five of Bayer’s seven BL away wins have come against teams from the bottom half of the table, with Leverkusen scoring 2+ match goals in four of those triumphs.
