Atletico Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano 26/08/18

26 August 2018

After a tight 1-1 draw with Valencia at the Estadio de Mestalla, Atletico Madrid will face off against Rayo Vallecano at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, looking to achieve the first triumph in the new La Liga campaign. Through the likes of Gelson Martins, Rodri, and Thomas Lemar, Los Colchoneros have secured three significant acquisitions this summer, with the first two already featured in the European Super Cup against Real Madrid, winning their first title in the new club. Before taking part in the Super Cup Final, Diego Simeone’s team suffered two straight losses at the International Champions Cup, 1-0 to Inter Milan and 3-2 to Paris Saint-Germain although it’s fair to say he didn’t get the chance to use the vast majority of his first-team members in those games. Meanwhile, a disastrous 4-1 defeat to Sevilla in front of the home crowd in the first La Liga fixture has only confirmed Los Franjirrojos’ terrible form, as it was their fourth consecutive loss, including three they have suffered to Belenenses, Valladolid, and Leganes before the start of the season, conceding nine goals in the process. If looking to avoid another misery, Michel will have to come up with some fresh ideas regarding his side’s defensive game, as Atletico currently have one of the most devastating attacks in Spain.

According to the latest reports, both managers will have all of their key players fit and ready for the encounter.
