Atletico Madrid vs Juventus 21/02/19

21 February 2019

The most unpredictable clash in the Champions League last-16 will see Atletico Madrid welcoming Juventus to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

The hosts come into this meeting off the back of a narrow 1-0 road win over Rayo Vallecano that has helped them bringing a two-game losing streak to an end. Although they are not going through the best of times, Los Colchoneros still boast an almost perfect home record (W13, D3, L1), which seems to be their main advantage ahead of this fixture. Diego Simeone’s players have been impressive at the back, especially when playing in front of the home supporters having kept six clean sheets in their last eight games across all competitions. Although they’ve been impeccable in defense, the Spanish giants are still struggling in the final third. A potential worry for Simeone could be the fact his men have scored one goal or less in three of their previous five home outings.

Unbeaten in their last three competitive clashes (W2, D1), the visitors arrive in the Spanish capital hoping to achieve their elusive first triumph over Atletico (D1, L1) in the European competitions. Although they suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in Bergamo a fortnight ago, the Bianconeri have been outstanding away from home this season. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have picked up 13 wins in 16 road games across all competitions (W13, D1, L2), scoring 2+ match goals 12 times in the process. All six of Juventus’ previous competitive clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, with the Old Lady scoring exactly three goals per match four times during the sequence. Surprisingly, the Turin heavyweights have conceded over 2.5 goals per match twice in their last four games, failing to wrap up all three points on both occasions (D1, L1).
