Atletico Madrid vs Getafe 26/01/19

26 January 2019

Two of La Liga’s best defenses go head-to-head at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid welcome a hard-to-beat Getafe.

Although unbeaten in their last 18 competitive clashes (W11, D7), Los Rojiblancos have already entered a must-win territory as they currently trail the league leaders Barcelona by five points. Los Indios are the only unbeaten side in La Liga when it comes to home games (W8, D2), having won three consecutive LL home meetings without conceding a goal. Just like last season, Diego Simeone’s warriors don’t leave any space to their rivals in their own third. Los Colchoneros (13) have conceded the fewest goals of all teams in the Spanish top flight, keeping a clean sheet ten times in 20 La Liga fixtures. What’s more, Jan Oblak has protected his net seven times in ten LL home outings, allowing barely four goals in the process. Meanwhile, Antoine Griezman and Co. have hit the back of the net in all of their 15 home encounters in all competitions, bagging over 1.5 goals per match nine times during the run.

On the other hand, picking up all three points seems like an elusive task for Getafe considering they’ve lost on each of their last eight visits to Madrid, without scoring a single goal in that period. However, the Azulones are unbeaten in 11 successive road meetings in all competitions (W4, D7), with their only away defeat dates back to La Liga opening matchday and their clash with Real Madrid. An interesting fact is that all of Getafe’s seven road stalemates have ended with the identical 1-1 scoreline. The second-best La Liga defense (16) has kept a clean sheet just five times in 20 La Liga meetings, but Jose Bordalas’ battlers have conceded over 1.5 goals per match barely three times so far. However, the visitors are struggling in the final third, having scored over 1.5 goals per match just seven times this campaign, while failing to hit the target on seven occasions in the process.
