Atletico Madrid vs Celta Vigo 14/04/19

14 April 2019

Atletico Madrid welcome Celta Vigo to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, with both sides seeking a positive outcome for their own purposes.

With their chances of winning La Liga title dropped drastically following a 2-0 road loss to Barcelona, the hosts can’t afford another failure. Los Colchoneros boast an almost perfect home record (W12, D2, L1) with 11 of their home wins saw them beating their rivals to nil. What’s more, Atletico’s tally of seven goals conceded at home is league’s best, with Diego Simeone’s men keeping 17 clean sheets in 31 LL outings this term – more than any other team in Spain. Although Los Rojiblancos netted 25 league goals at home so far (fifth joint-best record) on an average of 1.56 goals scored per match, they are one of only two teams to find the net in every single home fixture this term (along with Barcelona).

On the other hand, the relegation-threatened visitors go into this meeting after racking up a three-game LL unbeaten run (W2, D1). Sitting just two points clear of 18th-placed Villarreal, Célticos are frantically looking over their shoulders, especially as they face the opponent that beat them in all three of their previous H2Hs in Madrid. Another huge problem for Fran Escribá is Celta’s disastrous road form that has seen them failed to pick up all three points on eight successive LL road trips (D2, L6). In that period, Celestes have conceded over 1.5 goals on six occasions while failing to find the net on four.
