Atlanta United vs New York Red Bulls 11/10/20

11 October 2020

New York Red Bulls will be looking to extend an unbeaten MLS run against Atlanta United to five (W3, D1) when the two sides meet at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Despite picking up just two wins from their last ten league fixtures (W2, D3, L5), the hosts remain in contention for a top-six finish in the Eastern Conference, as they enter this round four points adrift of sixth-placed New England Revolution. Scoring goals has been an issue for Atalanta lately, given that they’ve netted under 1.5 goals in all but two of their previous ten MLS outings. Unfortunately for the ‘Five Stripes,’ they have established the habit of falling behind without recovering, losing all five of their MLS home matches in which they conceded the opening goal. That said, Stephen Glass’s men have also lost three of their five top-flight H2H as hosts overall (W1, D1, L3), shipping over 1.5 goals on three of those occasions.

Meanwhile, the visitors are just two points short of sixth-placed New England but take the field after suffering two consecutive defeats, both of which saw over 2.5 second-half goals and both teams on the scoresheet. In fact, none of New York Red Bulls’ last eight MLS games has ended in a draw (W3, L5), with five of those results (wins/losses) yielding at least a two-goal margin. Gerhard Struber’s men have also improved offensively in the recent period, going from three straight MLS trips without scoring to finding the back of the net at least once in four successive away matches. However, they have only managed to bag an average of 1.11 goals per road fixture so far, though grabbing the opening goal in 55.56% of their top-flight trips.
