Atalanta vs Torino

Back to Serie A action after making history in Ireland, high-flying Atalanta entertain Torino in an exciting league fixture.

Dublin was a place of history in midweek Europa League action as Ademola Lookman’s hat-trick inspired Atalanta to an emphatic 3-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen, bringing the first piece of major silverware to the club’s dusty trophy cabinet since the 1963 Coppa Italia triumph. In doing so, veteran coach Gian Piero Gasperini became the oldest manager to lift a European title in his first continental final. La Dea also ended the Germans’ scintillating 51-game unbeaten run in style while making it five wins across their last six competitive outings (L1). With next season’s Champions League football in the bag, Gasperini’s men head into proceedings relieved of pressure but keen to avenge a dreadful 3-0 defeat in December’s reverse fixture and extend a three-game unbeaten home league run (W2, D1).

On the other hand, Torino gave themselves a shot at three consecutive Serie A wins for the first time since March 2019 with an outrageous 3-1 home victory against AC Milan last weekend and, more importantly, preserving their faint hopes of securing a European spot. However, Ivan Juric’s farewell game as Torino manager is anything but simple, with ‘I Granata’ conceding 3+ goals on their last three visits to Bergamo (D2, L1). The visitors must buck that trend if they’re to fend off Napoli and keep hold of ninth place while hoping that Fiorentina claim the Europa Conference League title next week to secure a European finish. Torino’s defensive solidity has been nothing short of impressive, with only Juventus and Bologna conceding fewer Serie A goals than them (33) this term.
