AS Roma vs Atalanta 26/09/19

26 September 2019

AS Roma and Atalanta go head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico this midweek, with the home side trying to snap a three-game Serie A (SA) winless run in H2Hs (D2, L1).

After back-to-back draws at the beginning of the 2019/20 SA campaign, the hosts have put together two wins over Sassuolo and Bologna, as they currently sit four points adrift of league toppers Inter Milan. Notably, all of Roma’s SA outings this term have seen both teams score, with the Giallorossi breaking the deadlock in each of those matches. For Roma, most of the action takes part in the first half, as seven of ten league goals they’ve scored this season came before the break. But, a leaky defense that has already allowed seven SA goals so far can put Paulo Fonseca’s side in trouble here, especially as they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 of their last 13 SA H2Hs with Atalanta.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes in the league this term (W2, D1, L1), with all of their SA games featuring over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Curiously, both of Atalanta’s SA wins have come away from home, with four of five goals they’ve scored in those trips arriving in the second half. Another encouraging fact for the traveling side is that they’ve dodged failure in all five of their previous SA visits to this venue (W2, D3). Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have netted 2+ match goals in three of those matches while keeping a blank sheet only once in the process. What’s more, La Dea’s last SA away loss dates back to late February, after which they’ve racked up an eight-game SA unbeaten run on the road (W6, D2).
