Arsenal vs Watford 26/07/20

26 July 2020

Arsenal and Watford go head-to-head at the Emirates Stadium this weekend in the final round of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

A dismal 1-0 away loss to Aston Villa during the midweek means that all four of Arsenal’s previous Premier League matches ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W1, D1, L2), which has been true in four of their last six top-flight H2H clashes against Watford (W3, D1, L2). However, the Gunners have been quite impressive at home in the Premier League this calendar year, winning all but two of their eight such matches (D2). Interestingly, Mikel Arteta’s men have scored five of the seven league home goals since the resumption of football before the break, with four coming inside the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Meanwhile, Watford’s hopes of avoiding relegation have been severely compromised following back-to-back defeats to West Ham and Manchester City – both of which yielded at least a two-goal margin and saw the Hornets concede over 1.5 first-half goals. Despite being level on points with 17th-placed Aston Villa ahead of the season finale, the visitors have to avoid defeat here and hope West Ham to beat Villa to keep their top-flight status. However, it will be a daunting prospect for Watford to walk away from London unbeaten, given that they’ve lost all but one of their last seven Premier League trips (D1). Frustratingly for the traveling fans, Hayden Mullins’ players have scored just once in their previous five top-flight away games, conceding precisely three goals per match on three of those occasions.
