Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur

The 194th North London derby pits Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur against each other at the Emirates Stadium in a heavyweight clash between the two in-form Premier League sides.

Arsenal won another dramatic Premier League encounter last weekend, overcoming Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park for the first time since 2017 to put a fourth victory on the board in the opening five league matches (D1). Back to the Emirates after a 4-0 demolition of PSV Eindhoven on their Champions League return, Mikel Arteta’s men will be keen to continue their free-scoring form in North London, having netted 2+ goals in all three league outings here this season (W2, D1). But the local fans might need to be patient, considering four of Arsenal’s last five Premier League home goals have come in the second half of play. The ‘Gunners’ wouldn’t mind more late drama here if it allows them to maintain their eye-catching 12-game unbeaten home league streak against Tottenham (W8, D4), a run stretching back to November 2010.

Ominously for Tottenham, they haven’t registered a single clean sheet in an away match against Arsenal in the Premier League since the turn of the 21st century! Based on their ever-present defensive woes, they’re unlikely to buck that trend this weekend, especially after conceding in their last two league outings against newly-promoted sides. However, Ange Postecoglou’s men will take this short trip to the Emirates in high spirits after stoppage-time goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski saw them overturn a 1-0 deficit in a breathtaking 2-1 home triumph over Sheffield United last weekend. That victory forms part of Tottenham’s sublime Premier League start under the ex-Celtic manager (W4, D1), while it’s worth noting they’re the only side in England’s elite division to have netted 2+ goals in all five previous rounds.
