Arsenal vs Olympique Lyonnais 28/07/19
28 July 2019
Arsenal and Olympique Lyonnais will face-off at the Emirates Stadium for the Emirates Cup final in a clash that will see the French outfit looking to snap a three-game winless run against the Premier League giants (D1, L2).
The Gunners have enjoyed an impressive International Champions Cup campaign, beating Bayern Munich and Fiorentina, 2-1 and 3-0 respectively. However, they have failed to capitalize on a 2-0 lead over Real Madrid in their final ICC appearance, eventually losing to La Liga giants after a penalty shootout. Nonetheless, all five of Arsenal’s pre-season matches have been full of entertainment, as all have produced over 2.5 goals while three have seen both teams score. Although struggled to keep a clean sheet in eight of their previous ten outings, Unai Emery’s men have been regular on the scoresheet across the same period, netting 2+ match goals on eight occasions in the process.
Meanwhile, Les Gones have failed to impress in their pre-season so far, suffering two defeats in as many games. All of Lyon’s last 11 matches have produced at least three goals, with nine of them witnessing goals at both ends. Unapologetic in the final third, Lyon have netted over 1.5 match goals in eight of those games, but fragile at the back, they’ve allowed 2+ match goals seven times along the way. What’s more, ten of those clashes have featured goals in both halves, with Lyon failing to take the lead before the break seven times across that period.
