Arsenal vs Manchester United 11/03/19

11 March 2019

Weekend’s Premier League action concludes with a blockbuster, heavyweight clash at the Emirates Stadium as fifth-placed Arsenal and fourth-placed Manchester United battle it out for the Champions League promotion spot.

The hosts go into this meeting off the back of a disastrous 3-1 road loss to Rennes in the Europa League. However, the Gunners are unbeaten in their previous four Premier League fixtures (W3, D1), putting three league wins together before being held to a 1-1 draw to Tottenham Hotspur last time out. The one thing Unai Emery can be happy about is that his players have pulled off eight consecutive PL home victories, scoring 2+ match goals in the last six. Furthermore, in that period, Arsenal have conceded just six goals, allowing over 1.5 match goals only once in the process. But, the North London giants have lost both of their previous H2H meetings with Man Utd at this venue, with both of those games ending with the identical 1-3 scoreline.

On the other hand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men now have a chance to create a comfortable gap between them and Arsenal, considering they currently sit just one point above bitter rivals. Manchester United’s impressive run of form under Solskjaer has seen them won 14 of 17 competitive games since Jose Mourinho departure. The visitors come into this meeting fully encouraged after a stunning 3-1 road win over PSG that has seen them advance to the Champions League quarter-finals. What’s more, the Red Devils have racked up a nine-game road winning run across all competitions, bagging 2+ match goals in each. In that period, David de Gea and his teammates have preserved a clean slate on five occasions, restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match on the other four.
