Arsenal vs Fulham 01/01/19

01 January 2019

After suffering a disastrous 5-1 road defeat to Liverpool in their last game in 2018, Arsenal look to start a new year off on the right foot as they prepare to take on Fulham at the Emirates Stadium.

Winless in their previous two Premier League clashes, the Gunners have dropped down the table as they currently trail fourth-placed Chelsea by five points. Ever since Southampton brought their 22-game lossless streak to an end, Unai Emery’s players have been struggling for a proper form, losing three out of last five competitive matches while securing just one win in the process. However, Arsenal boast an almost perfect home record (W7, D2, L1), having lost only to Manchester City on the opening matchday. Although the Gunners racked up a three-game home winning run, Emery’s men have managed just one clean sheet in their last six games at the Emirates Stadium. Meanwhile, Aubameyang and his fellow teammates have found the back of the net in nine consecutive home games in the Premier League, scoring a minimum of two goals per match six times during the run.

On the other hand, a three-game lossless streak has seen the visitors escaping the bottom for the first time since returning to the top flight as they currently trail the safe zone by one point. What’s more, the returnees have kept a clean sheet twice in their three Premier Leauge outings after conceding in 17 straight league appearances. The Whites now go after their elusive first road league victory, as they remain the only team that failed to wrap up all three points away from home (D2, L8). The Cottagers hold by far the worst defensive record in the English top tier competition, having conceded 43 goals in 20 Premier League clashes. Furthermore, Claudio Ranieri’s men have allowed a minimum of two goals per match in three out of their last four road encounters, scoring just one goal in the process.
