Arsenal and Eintracht Frankfurt will face off in the UEFA Europa League (EL) at the Emirates Stadium this week, with the home side looking to find a way out of a severe crisis.

A 1-1 away draw with Vitoria Guimaraes last time out has brought Arsenal’s three-game winning EL run to a halt, but they are still on the verge of securing a place in the knockout phase. If they avoid defeat here, the Gunners will move to the next stage, and they are likely to do that given that two of their three EL wins this term came at home and saw them score at least three goals. Also, the North Londoners demolished Frankfurt 3-0 in the reverse fixture, which was their 18th triumph in 39 matches against the Bundesliga clubs (W18, D6, L15). But, Unai Emery’s side come into this encounter after failing to pick up a single win in their last six games in all competitions (D5, L1), although they’ve managed over 1.5 match goals on half of those occasions (3).

Meanwhile, the visitors have shot themselves in the foot after suffering a 2-1 away defeat to Standard Liege last time out. They are level on points with the Belgium outfit and five clear of dead-last Guimaraes, but another failure could prove fatal to their hopes of securing knockout-stage promotion. Interestingly, both of Frankfurt’s EL wins this season have come via a single-goal margin and saw them take a 1-0 lead into halftime. They now face a daunting prospect of securing their first-ever triumph on English soil (D1, L3). But, they do have a solid recent away record in the competition to rely on here (W4, L1).
