Arsenal vs Burnley 17/08/19

17 August 2019

Arsenal will kick off their 2019-20 home campaign this weekend when they take on Burnley at the Emirates Stadium in the second round of the Premier League fixtures.

The hosts have pulled off a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United last time out, bringing their four-game winless streak to a halt (D3, L1). Like the last season, Unai Emery’s biggest problem this summer was Arsenal’s poor defending that has seen them concede at least one goal in six of eight pre-season games, allowing over 1.5 match goals four times in the process. Still, the London giants have won all seven of their previous home H2Hs with Burnley across all competitions, all of which have been accompanied by at least two goals in Burnley’s net. What’s more, the Gunners were the third-best home side in the Premier League last season, as 45 of their total 70 PL points have arrived at this venue (64.28%).

Meanwhile, the visitors have secured a comfortable 3-0 home win over Southampton in the PL opener, stretching their unbeaten run to six games (W5, D1). Interestingly, all of those matches have seen Burnley score 2+ match goals, while three of those wins have been accompanied by a clean sheet. But, a potential worry for the Clarets could be their performance away from home, as just 42.5% of their total PL points last season have arrived on the road (17 of 40). Additionally, Sean Dyche’s men have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of 19 league away games last term, conceding over 1.5 match goals against four of top-five PL sides.
