Argentina vs Nicaragua 08/06/19

8 June 2019

Argentina and Nicaragua will meet at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario in San Juan for a friendly encounter on the eve of their participation in Copa America and the Gold Cup respectively.

The hosts’ preparations for the upcoming Copa America will come to an end with this encounter, as they look to post their second straight win following a narrow 1-0 triumph over Morocco back in March. Notably, all five of Argentina’s post-World Cup victories have seen them beat their rivals to nil, with La Albiceleste netting 2+ match goals four times across those games. Still, their matches over the past ten months have not been full of entertainment, with five of their last eight outings producing under 2.5 goals, while just one of them saw both teams score.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes in their last five outings (W2, D1, L2), with three of those matches featuring under 2.5 goals. The fact that Nicaragua’s most notable victory in the past 15 months came against Barbados indicates they will face a daunting prospect of challenging one of the best national teams on the planet. The one thing that can encourage Henry Duarte is that his players have managed to hold Bolivia to a 2-2 draw in their last H2H clash with a South American nation. Even though they are unbeaten on their previous three road trips (W2, D1), La Azul y Blanco have struggled to impress when away from home, having failed to secure a win in 14 away games prior (D3, L11).
