Andorra vs Turkey 18/11/19

18 November 2019

Andorra and Turkey go head-to-head at the Estadi Nacional in the final fixture of the 2020 UEFA European Championship Qualifying (ECQ) Group H.

The hosts have their midweek’s 2-2 away draw with Albania to thank for not sitting bottom of the group after grabbing only one triumph in their opening eight ECQ fixtures (W1, L7). A 1-0 victory over Moldova back in October was Andorra’s only home success in this group (L3), and it was also the only time that they’ve found a net and kept a clean sheet on home soil in the ongoing qualifiers. In fact, before that victory, the Tricolors have conceded at least one goal in all six halves of the ECQ home football played while producing only three shots on target across those matches. A slow start could be a big issue for Andorra here, as they’ve conceded the opener inside the first 25 minutes in all but two of their eight ECQ matches so far.

Far more comfortable on home turf, the visitors have registered just seven of their total 20 Group H points on foreign soil (35%). Although they’ve already advanced to the final tournament, the Crescent-Stars go into this meeting after failing to pick up three points in both of their previous qualifying matches (D2). Also, all three goals Senol Gunes’ men have shipped in the ongoing qualifying campaign have come away from home, with two of them arriving in the first half. Still, an encouragement for the traveling side is that they’ve won all three of their previous competitive H2Hs with Andorra, scoring eight goals across those clashes while conceding none in the process.
