Ajax vs Watford 19/07/19

19 July 2019

Ajax and Watford go head-to-head at the SaalfeldenArena for a friendly fixture that will see the Premier League side looking to bounce back after a disappointing end of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Lancers have already played out three friendlies this summer (W2, D1), with all of those matches seeing both teams score while two producing over 2.5 goals. Erik ten Hag’s men are enjoying a purple patch of form, having picked up 13 wins in their last 16 outings (W13, D2, L1). They have scored two or more goals in 11 of those triumphs, keeping a blank slate three times though. Interestingly, six of Ajax’s last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals, with all seven of them featuring goals in both halves.

Meanwhile, the Hornets travel here on a five-game winless run (D1, L4), with Javi Gracia’s players scoring one goal or less across all of those outings. Watford’s inability to keep a clean sheet has seen them concede at least one goal in 15 straight games in the build-up to this meeting, allowing over 1.5 goals per match eight times along the way. Five of Watford’s last six matches have featured goals in both halves, with WFC trailing at the halftime break in four. Also, a slow start to the game has seen Watford find the net in the first half only once in their last eight outings.
