Adelaide United vs Sydney FC 06/08/20

06 August 2020

Sydney FC head to the ANZ Stadium to face Adelaide United, looking to post a fifth consecutive win in their A-League H2Hs.

The hosts have stepped up their game ahead of this clash, going from four successive A-League defeats to three matches without a loss in a row (W2, D1). Notably, three of those seven matches saw over 6.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. In turn, the ANZ Stadium has been a venue of entertainment this season, as eight of Adelaide’s 12 top-flight home clashes so far featured over 2.5 goals and both sides hitting the net. However, United could find themselves in trouble if they concede the opening goal here. The ‘Reds’ have lost all four of their A-League home fixtures this term in which they shipped the opener.

Meanwhile, the visitors have lost both of their previous league fixtures, conceding precisely two second-half goals in each after keeping a clean sheet before HT. Indeed, Sydney have suffered a dip in form that has also impacted their away results. They’ve gone from four consecutive A-League away victories to two straight games without a win (D1, L1), with three of those four results (wins/losses) yielding a full-time margin of at least two goals. Yet, the ‘Sky Blues’ can draw inspiration from the fact they’ve avoided defeat in all six of their previous top-flight trips to Adelaide (W3, D3). Also, Steve Corica has based his side’s road success on a robust defense that has conceded the division’s low 11 league goals away from home.
