AC Milan vs SPAL 01/11/19

1 November 2019

AC Milan will try to find a way out of a severe crisis when they take on relegation-threatened SPAL at the Stadio San Siro this midweek.

It is a start to forget for the Rossoneri, who have won just three of their first nine SA fixtures (D1, L5). Winless in both league matches (D1, L1) since replacing Marco Giampaolo, Silvio Pioli will be desperate to his side take advantage of their perfect top-flight H2H record against SPAL (W4). However, the Milanese giants have pulled off only one victory in four SA home outings thus far (D1, L2), scoring more than one goal once, while conceding over 1.5 goals per SA home match on three occasions. Lapses in concentration in the closing stages have seen Milan concede a goal beyond the 75th minute in three consecutive SA home games ahead of this one.

Meanwhile, the struggling SPAL side have a chance to prove they are no pushovers on the road after losing all four of their SA away matches without scoring a single goal. Scorers of just seven league goals, the visitors hold the SA’s second joint-worst goalscoring record, whilst dealing with the fourth-worst defensive record (16) at the same time. Stretching back to late February, none of SPAL’s last ten SA trips have ended in a draw (W3, L7), with just three seeing both teams score. Another reason for concern when it comes to the traveling team is that they’ve allowed two or more goals per SA away fixture seven times across the above sequence.
