AC Milan vs Sampdoria

AC Milan will be looking to move to the top of the Serie A table when they encounter relegation-battling Sampdoria at the Stadio San Siro.

Milan came from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 in last weekend’s Derby della Madonnina, ending a run of back-to-back Serie A games without winning (D1, L1) while handing their Scudetto hopes a massive boost in the process. Now just one away from the Serie A summit, ‘I Rossoneri’ will be looking to improve upon their underwhelming four-game home form (W2, D1, L1). Coming to the town is a Sampdoria side Milan have failed to defeat in their last two top-flight H2Hs at the San Siro (D2). Ominously, though, Stefano Pioli’s men, who are winless in two Serie A home outings (D1, L1), last endured a three-game home streak without winning at home in April 2020 when they drew 1-1 with Sampdoria to bookend a dismal run.

Luckily for Milan, the visitors have faltered on the road of late, losing their last two Serie A away matches by an identical 1-0 scoreline. Another scoring blank would see them go three consecutive Serie A trips without finding the net for the first time since May 2018. By extension, Sampdoria’s road record in Italy’s top-flight this season reads indifferently (W3, D2, L6), with Marco Giampaolo’s side registering an average of 1.18 goals scored per game. On the bright side, ‘La Samp’ thrashed Sassuolo 4-0 last time out and could win back-to-back Serie A fixtures for the first time since November. Additionally, Sampdoria will be aiming to keep two consecutive clean sheets in the competition for the first time since May 2021, even though they’ve only managed three shutouts from 11 Serie A travels this term.
