AC Milan vs Napoli 30/01/19

30 January 2019

In less than five days, AC Milan and Napoli will face each other at the same venue as the Rossoneri welcome the Partenopei to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

The two faced-off during weekend’s Serie A clash in Milano, but the match has ended with a 0-0 stalemate although the visitors missed a few sitters to walk away with all three points. It was the second consecutive H2H meeting between these two at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza that has finished with the identical 0-0 scoreline.

The 7-time Champions League winners are going through a difficult time considering they’ve secured just two triumphs (in 90 minutes) in the previous ten meetings across all competitions. The main reason for the Rossoneri’s struggling is closely related to their indifferent displays in the final third. AC Milan’s severe attacking crisis has seen them failing to hit the net in seven of their last ten competitive outings although they’ve managed to score over 1.5 goals per match twice in that period. Still, a hard-working defense has managed to mitigate the damage attack has been creating. That’s why eight of AC Milan’s previous ten competitive encounters produced under 2.5 goals. Gennaro Gattuso’s principal concern, however, is that his team failed to beat Napoli in the last nine H2H meetings (W6, D3).

On the other hand, the visitors are unbeaten in four successive games across all competitions (W3, D1), but they come into this clash looking to end a two-game road winless streak (D1, L1). Same as AC Milan, the Blues have been dealing with major difficulties in the final third lately, especially when playing away from home. Carlo Ancelotti’s men have scored just one goal on their last four competitive road trips, with each of those matches producing under 1.5 goals. What’s more, the Partenopei have struggled to score over 1.5 goals per match in five of their last nine games in all competitions, failing to hit the net three times in the process.
