Two European heavyweights that are going through a rough time over the past few years are going to face off against each other at the StubHub Center in Carson, with AC Milan expected to take on Manchester United in their opening International Champions Cup match. The Red and Blacks had a disappointing season in Serie A, barely managing to secure the Europa League promotion, which was later compromised by some financial troubles the Rossoneri have been going through, but eventually, the seven-time Champions League winners will break into the European stage thanks to a decision made by the Court Arbitration for Sport. Gennaro Gattuso’s team had a fairly simple task to beat Novara in their first summer friendly, but a match against the Premier League giants will be a much tougher exam for the former Italian champions. The Red Devils, on the other hand, played out two uninspiring draws with Club America and San Jose Earthquakes, finding the back of the net just once in those two meetings. José Mourinho is determined to return Manchester United to its glory days in his third season in charge, and an encounter with Milan might be the right opportunity for his players to show their capabilities.

Both managers will have almost all of their key players keep and ready for the big showdown, except for Paul Pogba who won the World Cup with France thus earning a longer break for himself.
