AC Milan vs Inter Milan
The San Siro will take center stage when AC Milan and Inter Milan face off against each other in the 175th edition of the famed Derby della Madonnina in Serie A.
Despite their underwhelming Champions League campaign, Milan have been a force to be reckoned with in Serie A this season, picking up ten wins from their opening 11 league matches to date (D1). Coming into this matchday, ‘I Rossoneri’ have won their last seven Serie A fixtures in a row, with five of those wins coming by a narrow one-goal margin. That ability to prevail in tight, keenly-contested affairs could be encouraging, as last season’s Serie A runners-up look to avoid losing three consecutive top-flight H2Hs as nominal hosts for only the second time in their history, last doing so between 1929 and 1934. That prospect is not beyond the realm of possibility, though, as Stefano Pioli’s men have lost five of their last six Serie A H2Hs (W1) by an aggregate score of 14-6.
Meanwhile, Inter followed up a brace of 2-0 Serie A wins with a precious 3-1 Champions League triumph away to Sheriff Tiraspol in midweek to set themselves up nicely for this mouth-watering showdown. Though they are well versed in playing at the San Siro, the reigning Italian champions can draw further confidence from winning three of their last four Serie A away matches (L1). Simone Inzaghi’s men look close to their best again, and only the best will do, considering Milan and Inter have amassed the exact number of Serie A points since the turn of 2020 (155 from 70 matches). But ‘I Nerazzurri’ have scored 246 Serie A goals against bitter rivals, which is more than any other Serie A side has ever managed against Milan.
