AC Milan vs Genoa 20/08/18
20 August 2018
After a turbulent summer full of uncertainties and controversies concerning the previous management, AC Milan will host Genoa at San Siro in their opening match of the new Serie A campaign under the brand new leadership, hoping to reach the Champions League football for the first time in the last six years. The Rossoneri have gone through some drastic changes during the summer that saw the skipper Leonardo Bonucci leaving the team to rejoin Juventus, while Gonzalo Higuain went in the opposite direction, while at the same time Leonardo and Paolo Maldini returned to the club, taking charge of the transfer policy. In such an atmosphere, the Milanese giants have suffered three defeats during the preparation period, losing to Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United, while their only victory came against Barcelona as part of their International Champions Cup journey. Meanwhile, the Griffin have won three out of five friendly matches in the off-season, while losing two times in the process, before defeating Lecce 4-0 in the Coppa Italia first round, but the match at San Siro will be their toughest test since the end of last season.
Andrea Conti is yet to return to action since last September when he suffered a severe knee injury, while Hakan Calhanoglu won’t be available due to suspension. As for the visitors, the Brazilian midfielder Sandro and Iuri Medeiros are expected to remain on the stands due to some physical problems.
