Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace go head-to-head at Molineux Stadium this week, as the home side look to bring a two-game winless run in the Premier League H2Hs to a halt (D1, L1).
Wolverhampton’s hopes of securing Europa League football for the second year in a row are on the line here, as the hosts take the field two points behind sixth-placed Tottenham. But, Wolves have enjoyed a slight upturn in form lately, going from back-to-back Premier League defeats to two straight matches without a loss (W1, D1), with each of those results (win/loss) during that four-game sequence seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. Although none of Wolves’ last six league home games have seen both sides on the scoresheet, the ‘both-teams-score’ theme should not be discarded. Indeed, three of their last four competitive H2Hs held at this venue have featured over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring (W1, D1, L2).
Meanwhile, the visitors have endured a notable dip in form going into this clash, losing six consecutive Premier League matches after racking up four successive wins prior. Importantly, each of Palace’s four wins during that period has been ‘to nil,’ which has been true in five of their six defeats during the same timeframe. The one thing Roy Hodgson has to be warry of is Crystal Palace’s inability to get up after the shipping the opener. In fact, the Eagles returned only five points from 11 Premier League away matches in which they’ve conceded the opening goal (W1, D2, L8).
