Wellington Phoenix and Brisbane Roar are set to face off against each other at the Bankwest Stadium this midweek in what promises to be a high-scoring A-League contest. All four of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue have seen at least three goals and both teams hitting the net.
The hosts are going through a rough period, having won only once in their last four league matches (D1, L2), with three of those fixtures seeing both teams score. In turn, none of their previous four top-flight H2Hs have ended in a draw (W2, L2), with the loser on the day scoring precisely once on three of those occasions. Yet, the ‘Nix’ have been a force to be reckoned with on home turf lately. They’ve clinched eight wins in their last ten A-League home outings (D2), netting over 1.5 goals in all but two of those games. Delivering action from the get-go, half (six) of Wellington’s 12 A-League home fixtures this season have featured at least one goal scored/conceded in the opening 15 minutes of play.
As for the visitors, they’ve endured mixed fortunes in their last six league matches (W4, L2), with four of those results (wins/losses) yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline. Indeed, Warren Moon’s men know how to put up a fight, especially when playing away from home. In fact, 11 of their 12 A-League trips this season have ended separating the sides by a full-time margin no greater than one goal (W4, D3, L5), with the majority (72.73%) of them featuring under 2.5 goals (8/11). Yet, slow-starting Brisbane have shipped the opening goal (if any) in eight A-League away games this term, going on to lose five such fixtures (W1, D2, L5).
