A 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s Stadium a week ago means Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton will lock horns in the FA Cup fourth-round replay, although Spurs will have the benefit of playing at their Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this time around.
Unbeaten in five successive outings in all competitions (W3, D2), Tottenham broke the deadlock in each of their three success in that period, and it will be vital for them to that again if looking to advance to the next round. Indeed, they won all but one of ten competitive home fixtures in which they opened the scoring this term (D1). On the contrary, they failed to bounce back after shipping the opener in four of six such home matches (W1, D1, L4), ultimately drawing a blank on three of those occasions. Nonetheless, Spurs have put together four consecutive victories in competitive home H2Hs with Southampton, netting over 1.5 goals in each of those clashes, although failing to keep a single clean sheet along the way.
Meanwhile, Southampton will be looking to erase the memory of a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield that brought their four-game away winning streak to a halt. The Saints tend to offer their fans some high-scoring affairs when they play away from home, with seven of their last nine road trips in all competitions featuring over 2.5 goals. Ralph Husselhutl’s men have been regular on the scoresheet during that nine-game sequence, scoring over 1.5 match goals on five occasions, while failing to find the net only once in the other four. Additionally, five of their eight results (win/loss) during the above period have yielded at least a two-goal margin, with the winner on the day keeping a blank sheet three times.
