Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to post their first-ever Premier League win over Sheffield United when the two teams meet at Bramall Lane this weekend (D1, L1).
Sheffield enjoyed a pretty decent season last year, securing a ninth-place finish, mainly due to their impressive home form. Indeed, a clear majority (71.43%) of the hosts’ Premier League wins last season arrived at Bramall Lane (10/14) while boasting the division’s second-best defensive home record. In fact, the ‘Blades’ shipped only 15 league goals back in 2019/20, conceding an average of just 0.78 goals per Premier League home fixture. Chris Wilder’s men have to believe they can continue on the same note here, considering they’ve beaten Wolves ‘to nil’ in both of their previous competitive H2H clashes held at this venue. It’s worth noting, though, that ten of United’s 15 top-flight home goals conceded last term came in the second half (66.67%).
Meanwhile, Wolves narrowly missed out on Europa League qualification last season, finishing seventh, level on points with sixth-placed Tottenham. The visitors’ Achilles heel in 2019/20 was slow starting away from home. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men conceded the opening goal in a league-high 12 of 19 Premier League trips last season! However, their capacity to bounce back after a poor start was nothing short of outstanding. The ‘Wanderers’ rescued more league away points (15) than any other side in the English top-flight last season – their away record after conceding the opener (W4, D3, L5). Far more aggressive in the second half, Wolverhampton registered the vast majority (75%) of their Premier League away goals scored last season after the half-time break (18/24).
