Real Madrid entertain Mallorca at the Alfredo di Stéfano Stadium this midweek, looking for a payback after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture.
Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 2-1 away from home last time out to make it three wins in as many post-pandemic La Liga fixtures and leapfrog arch-rivals Barcelona at the summit. Curiously, Zinedine Zidane’s men netted two or more goals in one half in each of their three games since the league’s restart. One of just three sides yet to taste defeat on home turf this season (W11, D4), Los Blancos have won five of six La Liga home games this calendar year (D1), scoring over 1.5 goals in the last four applicable matches. Real Madrid’s home success this campaign has been built on a robust defense that has conceded one goal or less in 12 of 15 La Liga home fixtures. Indeed, only two sides have shipped fewer league home goals than Real’s tally of ten this season.
Meanwhile, Mallorca’s struggles to avoid relegation have continued thanks to three consecutive league matches without success (D1, L2), with both of those defeats seeing Los Bermellones draw a blank. Excluding a 2-1 victory over Eibar, the visitors have lost 11 of their remaining 13 La Liga away games (D2), conceding at least once in both halves on six of those occasions. Additionally, Mallorca’s defensive problems on the road have seen Vicente Moreno’s side allow over 1.5 goals in nine of 14 league away matches, with 54.84% of their 31 La Liga away goals conceded coming in the second half of play (17).
