The Stadio San Paolo hosts a potentially high-scoring Serie A showdown between Napoli and Atalanta. Three of their last four top-flight H2Hs have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.
It’s been quite an impressive Serie A start for Napoli, who won both of their opening league games without reply and via at least a two-goal margin. Far more comfortable after half-time, the ‘Partenopei’ registered 87.5% of their Serie A goals scored this term in the second half of play, scoring precisely once beyond the 70-minute mark in each game. Notably, the hosts have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with post lockdown, winning all but one of their eight top-flight home fixtures since June (D1). Interestingly, though, five of their seven wins across that eight-game sequence came despite a -1 handicap, which was the case in three of their previous four Serie A H2H wins as hosts.
Meanwhile, the visitors boast a 100% league start (W3), beating their rivals of the day via at least a two-goal margin in all three victories despite failing to keep a single clean sheet. In a reflection of a true ‘Atalanta’ grit, they have scored over 3.5 goals in each of their opening three Serie A games, averaging 4.33 goals per fixture. Remarkably, Gian Piero Gasperini’s fired in precisely three first-half goals in each match. There’s no reason for ‘La Dea’ to stop scoring here, knowing they’ve netted over 1.5 goals in four of their previous five competitive trips to Napoli (W4, L1). At the other end of the pitch, all of Atalanta’s five Serie A goals conceded this term arrived before the 60-minute mark.
