Two sides that experienced similar fortunes in the past six months go head-to-head when Paraguay meet Mexico for an H2H at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
After enduring a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign, the South Americans have featured in just four friendlies for the past 12 months. Los Guaraníes have not only failed to secure a triumph in those outings, but they have suffered three defeats struggling to find the back of the net twice (D1, L3). La Albirroja don’t enjoy playing against CONCACAF-based nations having clinched barely one victory in five of their previous H2Hs with North American teams (W1, D1, L3), scoring only one goal in the process. Paraguay’s poor run of form is closely related to their defensive frailties that have seen them failing to preserve a clean slate in seven consecutive games ahead of this meeting. Eduardo Berizzo can’t be happy with his attack either, considering Paraguay have scored one goal or less in five of seven of their previous games.
Meanwhile, Mexico managed to snap a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Chile a few days ago, which was the second time El Tri bagged over 2.5 goals per match for the past 12 months. Mexico’s immense problems in the final third have seen them failed to find the back of the net in four of their seven outings in the post-World Cup period. In the same sequence, Gerardo Martino’s men have experienced big difficulties at the back, struggling to preserve a clean slate in each of their previous seven games. Additionally, Mexico have lost five straight H2Hs with South Americans scoring only across those meetings before beating Chile last time out.
