Saturday’s Premier League (PL) action concludes with a massive, heavyweight clash at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City take on in-form Chelsea.
City’s three-game winning PL run has been brought to a halt last time out, with Liverpool securing a comfortable 3-1 home victory. Although it’s been just 12 league fixtures so far, the reigning holders have no margin for error here, as they already trail table-toppers Liverpool by nine points. Therefore, it is a ‘must-win affair’ for the hosts, who have come off better in seven of their previous ten PL home H2H encounters with Chelsea (W7, D1, L2). Interestingly, six of those clashes have seen the winners on the day keep a clean sheet, with half of them (3) ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline. Except for a shock 2-0 loss to Wolves, the Citizens have been ruthless at home this term, scoring at least two goals per match in all of their remaining five PL home outings.
Meanwhile, Franck Lampard’s men are enjoying a purple patch of form and are currently sitting one point clear of fourth-placed Manchester City. The visitors have racked up a five-game winning away streak following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Manchester United in the PL curtain-raiser. Although all of those victories saw Chelsea concede at least one goal, four have witnessed them score three or more. In fact, 66.66% of their total PL goals scored so far have come away from home (18 of 27). Free-scoring Chelsea have netted at least one goal in ten consecutive halves of the PL away football played ahead of this trip. However, the Blues leaky defense has already shipped 12 away goals, which is the third joint-worst PL defensive record.
