After being held to a shock 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture, Liverpool will take on Shrewsbury in the FA Cup fourth round replay at Anfield this midweek.
Since the abovementioned draw, the hosts have secured back-to-back victories, both of which have been accompanied by a clean sheet and witnessed the Reds score over 1.5 goals. Arguably one of the best defenses in Europe’s top-five leagues, Jurgen Klopp’s backline has not conceded a single goal in six consecutive matches at Anfield in all competitions. Also, the Merseyside giants have won 15 of 17 competitive home fixtures so far this season (D2), netting 2+ match goals on 14 of those occasions. Impressively, 63.41% of Liverpool’s total home goals scored in all competitions this term came before the halftime break (26 of 41), with the Reds breaking the deadlock in 82.35% of their home fixtures.
Meanwhile, the visitors head to Liverpool on a run of four games without a win (D2, L2), with three of those matches seeing them concede over 1.5 goals. The ‘clean-sheet theme’ is not on the cards by any stretch of the imagination, especially given that they’ve struggled to shut out their opponents in all six of their previous competitive road trips. Another reason for concern is the fact that Shrewsbury drew a blank in six of their last 11 away games, scoring two or more goals only once in the other five. Also, all but one of the Shrews’ past 14 away fixtures have featured under 2.5 goals, with just four of them seeing both teams score.
