Lille will be looking to post a sixth consecutive Ligue 1 home win over Lens when the two clubs face off at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
The hosts enter this round as one of just two sides yet to taste Ligue 1 defeat this term (W4, D2) and are level on points with table-toppers Rennes. Keeping a clean sheet has been crucial for Lille’s recent league successes, as all of their four top-flight victories this season were ‘to nil.’ Yet, a lack of firepower up front has seen ‘Les Dogues’ score precisely once per game in four of six Ligue 1 outings so far, though they did score over 1.5 goals in both of their previous such matches. At the other end of the pitch, Lille’s rock-solid backline has yet to concede in the opening 70 minutes of play, with one of only two goals they allowed so far coming deep inside the stoppage time.
On the other hand, newly-promoted Lens could not ask for a better start to the season, having racked up a five-game unbeaten Ligue 1 run (W4, D1) following a 2-1 away loss to Nice on the opening matchday. Indeed, Franck Haise’s men know how to put up a fight, as evidenced by the fact that five of their six league matches so far ended separating the teams by under 1.5 goals. Away from home in Ligue 1, ‘Sang et Or’ tend to start fast and slow down after half-time, with 80% (four) of their five goals scored on the road to date arriving in the first half of play. But, they have drawn a blank in four of their last six top-flight trips to Lille, scoring precisely one goal apiece in the remaining two.
